Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) — Asian Side
SAW is on the Asian side of Istanbul. Despite being further in distance, journey times can be similar to IST during off-peak hours because the route avoids central Istanbul congestion. SAW is served by Pegasus Airlines from many UK regional airports.
- Taxi: Expect 60–90 minutes crossing the Bosphorus bridge to Vadistanbul. Metered taxi cost approximately 600–800 TL (£18–24).
- Bus + Metro: Havabus from SAW to Kadıköy, then take the Marmaray rail under the Bosphorus to Yenikapı, then metro towards Olimpiyat — journey is roughly 90 minutes but significantly cheaper.
Which Airport Should You Book?
If you are flying from London and have a choice: IST is generally closer and more convenient. If you are coming from a regional UK airport (Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh), SAW may have cheaper fares via Pegasus — the slightly longer transfer is worth the saving.
